Programs

The Department of Chicano and Latino Studies offers several academic programs. The interdisciplinary B.A. in CALS provides a comprehensive liberal arts education that prepares students for work in both the public and private sectors. Graduates have pursued careers in counseling, social work, law, public health and criminal justice administration.

CALS also offers a B.A. specifically designed for those interested in pursuing a career in education. The Teacher Preparation Track helps to prepare students for graduate classes in education and for the state-mandated exams required as part of the teaching credential certification process.

The department also offers a variety of minors that emphasize particular aspects of the CALS curriculum. In addition to an interdisciplinary minor, students may pursue a CALS minor with an emphasis on Spanish language skills, one that emphasizes social science and community service, and a Latin American Studies minor.
