"Reconstructing Maya Worldviews in Chiapas"

Reflecting on a Landmark Lecture: Silvia Soto's "Caracoleando Among Worlds"

This past January, Dr. Silvia Soto presented her book, "Caracoleando Among Worlds: Reconstructing Maya Worldviews in Chiapas," at the Spring Spotlight on Scholarship Series. Hosted by Sonoma State University's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the lecture drew attention to the vibrant literary contributions of the Maya Tsotsil people from Chiapas, Mexico.

Insights from the Lecture

Dr. Soto's discussion provided deep insights into how Maya Tsotsil literature serves as a vital conduit for expressing and preserving the rich cultural narratives and identities of the Maya people. Her analysis highlighted the importance of these texts in understanding and appreciating the complex interplay between tradition and modernity within indigenous communities.

Continued Relevance

Although the event has passed, the themes of "Caracoleando Among Worlds" remain highly relevant. The book continues to be an essential resource for students and scholars interested in Latin American and Indigenous Studies, offering perspectives that enrich our understanding of cultural persistence and transformation.
